Bigger is better!

Size matters when it comes to technology ... and I've got the evidence to prove it.

This week, the Wall Street Journal reported on a study funded by NEC (which happens to manufacture computer monitors) and conducted by the University of Utah. The findings? People using 24-inch monitors completed tasks 52% faster than people who used 18-inch monitors; and people who used two 20-inch monitors were 44% faster than those with 18-inch monitors. (There is an upper limit: productivity dropped off when people used a 26-inch screen.

The study concluded that someone using a larger monitor could save 2.5 hours a day!

Recently, I brought home a beautiful 24-inch Hewlett Packard monitor from FutureShop. I've had it out on long-term loan. I was thinking I should take it back. But now, with this research in hand, how can I?  Countless hours of productivity are at stake!

I was impressed by the big screen rapid- work hypothesis. So I pulled my 18 inch screen closer to simulate the 24 inch experience. I got sore eyes, radiation exposure marks on my underpants the image was blurry.

But you were correct. I finished my task almost 50 % faster. Unfortunately my mind did not seem to keep up with the fast pace and the 'task' was full of errors. Oh well its just the tax forms. Perhaps Steven Harper won't notice the extra zeros on the tax refund.

Maybe this is why the fastest orchestra doesn't always play the best music. So I am going to leave the 26 incher at the store , push the screen back again to its former position, take twice as long and and save the cash for ........... a copy of RUB's long awaited CD.

PS Easter seems as good a time as any to reveal your promised revised theological version of the physics Holy Grail ' The Theory of Everything'. No good just repeating last year's Everything = F(permutations and variations on the EADGBE strings).

PPS Good work on Radio and Blog as always
